From Sidelines to the Swing: Hudson’s Comeback Story with Dr. Brian Cohen
Hudson, a dedicated freshman athlete from Clarksburg, Ohio, lives and breathes sports. Whether he’s on the baseball field, basketball court, or reminiscing about his days as a high school football player, his passion for athletics is unmistakable. When he’s not training or competing, Hudson stays active in 4-H, serves as a camp counselor, and tends to his goats alongside his sister.
Everything changed during a scrimmage as quarterback for Adena High School. Late in the game, while making a play to the left, Hudson was sacked from behind. He hit the ground hard, another player landing squarely on his shoulder. Dazed and in pain, he struggled to understand what had just happened. A pounding headache and sharp pain in his shoulder followed. On the next-to-last play of the game, Hudson realized he couldn’t even lift his arm to catch the ball.
A trip to the emergency room at a reputable hospital revealed what they believed to be a break. He was sent home with a makeshift sling, some pain medication, and instructions to follow up—no surgery needed, they said. But something didn’t sit right with Hudson’s family.
Hudson’s mom trusted her instincts and called a friend, who immediately recommended Dr. Brian Cohen. They met Dr. Cohen in Grove City, where he took a new X-ray. The difference was shocking—and so was the diagnosis. Hudson needed surgery. The very next day, Dr. Cohen placed two pins in his shoulder to repair the damage.
Unlike the long wait at the initial appointment, Dr. Cohen saw Hudson weekly, often in Chillicothe, and provided hands-on, attentive care every step of the way. “He’s never in a hurry, even with a waiting room full of people,” Hudson shared. “He looks you in the eye, sits down, and you can tell he really cares about helping athletes get back to doing what they love.”

Each visit included X-rays that Dr. Cohen would walk Hudson through, showing the healing progress in real time. Hudson felt informed, reassured, and motivated. “I just wanted help,” he said, “and Dr. Cohen was the first one who really gave it.”
Six days after the injury, Hudson was looking forward to surgery. The pain had become a daily burden, and he trusted Dr. Cohen to help him through. The team carefully managed his discomfort with a nerve block before the procedure. Hudson recalls saying, “I’m going to be the new rookie of the year!”
Now, post-surgery, Hudson is back doing what he loves most: playing baseball. While his throwing velocity isn’t quite where it was before the injury, he’s on the field—and that means everything to him.
Hudson and his family can’t say enough about Dr. Cohen and his team, including Colton Morris, PA. They describe the entire staff as welcoming, professional, and kind. Quiet by nature but driven by deep passion and a strong work ethic, Hudson sums it up best:
“This injury would’ve ruined my life if I hadn’t met Dr. Cohen.” And his mom agrees: “I don’t know what would’ve happened if we didn’t see Dr. Cohen.”
