Finding the Right Care: How Jay Judy Got Back on the Road to Recovery

For Jay Judy, life has always been hands-on.
Originally from Windsor, Georgia, Jay spent years working for TVA at power substations before eventually making his way back to Ohio around 2011 to be closer to family during a difficult time. Most recently, he was driving a semi truck, until prolonged delays in properly addressing his shoulder.
What followed was a long and frustrating journey. But today, Jay is finally moving forward, with less pain, more function, and a renewed sense of trust in his care.
When Something Still Isn’t Right
Jay had already undergone shoulder surgery before ever meeting Dr. Cohen. But even after that first procedure, something didn’t feel right.
“The original pain never went away,” he shared. “I couldn’t lay on my right side for two years.”
Daily life became increasingly limited. The things he enjoyed most, woodworking in his shop, building cabinets, working on cars, and spending time being active with his kids, were no longer possible.
“I couldn’t even stretch my arm all the way out.” Despite his concerns, Jay felt like his symptoms weren’t being fully heard. “I felt like I just needed to suck it up.”
A Different Experience from the Start
After being referred through multiple providers, Jay eventually found his way to Dr. Cohen in Grove City. From the very first visit, something felt different.
“He actually listened to what I was saying,” Jay said. “It felt like he was paying attention.”
Even more reassuring, Dr. Cohen quickly identified the issue.
“He pointed right to the problem area without me even telling him exactly. He had a game plan almost instantly.”
For Jay, that level of clarity and confidence made all the difference.
A Second Surgery, and a Turning Point
Jay underwent a right shoulder replacement, his second surgery, but his first with Dr. Cohen.
The experience stood out immediately.
“I felt comfortable. Everything was right on and easygoing. I even got in earlier than expected. It felt expedited, like I mattered.”
And the results came quickly. “I noticed a dramatic difference in how it felt after just one week.”
The Road Back Isn’t Always Straight
Recovery hasn’t been without its challenges.
Shortly after surgery, Jay lost his job when he wasn’t able to return within the required timeframe. That also meant losing his insurance, which limited his ability to continue formal rehabilitation.
Still, he hasn’t stopped moving forward.
With guidance from his care team, he continues exercises at home and is gradually returning to the activities he loves, woodworking, staying active, and working with his hands.
“It’s still limited, but it’s much better than what it was.”
Rebuilding Trust in Care
For Jay, this experience wasn’t just about fixing his shoulder, it was about restoring trust.
“I’ve had a hard time trusting doctors,” he shared. “But I trust Dr. Cohen fully.”
From the care he received to the support from the entire staff, Jay felt confident every step of the way.
“They were amazing, very friendly, and very knowledgeable. If I ever have any issues in the future, I’ll go see him.”
Looking Ahead
Jay’s journey is a reminder that when something doesn’t feel right, it’s worth continuing to seek answers. The right care can change everything, not just physically, but emotionally, too.
Today, he’s focused on healing, rebuilding, and getting his life back.
“The Lord has something better planned for me,” Jay said. “I trust that.” And now, with the right support behind him, he’s moving forward, one step at a time.
