A New Chapter in Motion: Erika’s Path to Recovery

A New Chapter in Motion: Erika’s Path to Recovery

At 48, Erika Adkins was struggling with more than just everyday aches, her mobility was severely limited by persistent pain in her hip and lower back. For months, she had been told by a previous surgeon that she needed a hip replacement. She even received a shot in her hip in hopes of relief, but it did nothing. Still, the recommendation for surgery remained, and Erika felt stuck, unable to sit at work, manage her home, or handle daily tasks.

When Erika was referred to Dr. Cohen, by her primary care physician, she immediately noticed a difference. Unlike her previous experience, Dr. Cohen carefully reviewed her condition and quickly identified that her pain wasn’t actually coming from her hip, it was a herniated disk in her lower back. While the previous clinic had relied on old MRIs and a single X-ray, Dr. Cohen ordered a new MRI and analyzed them thoroughly. His clear explanation and confidence made Erika feel understood and reassured.

Dr. Cohen referred her to Dr. Bonasso, a neurological surgeon, got her scheduled promptly, ensuring she received timely care for her back issue. From her first appointment through recovery, Erika experienced a level of attention and compassion that stood out. “It was a whole different vibe,” she says. “They really honestly did care.”

Thanks to the expertise and guidance of Dr. Cohen, Dr. Bolasso and staff, Erika’s recovery was swift. By December last year, she was managing on her own at home, and by early February this year, she returned to work. With her mobility restored, she could finally engage in the life she had paused, running errands, moving around her new home, and enjoying time with her family.

Reflecting on her experience, Erika doesn’t hesitate: “Oh, definitely, yes,” she says when asked if she would seek medical advice from Dr. Cohen again. For her, finding doctors who combine skill with genuine care is rare, and Dr. Cohen and Dr. Bonasso delivered both.

Erika’s story is more than just a successful procedure. It’s about accurate diagnosis, patient-focused care, and regaining the independence and confidence to live life fully again.
