From Pain to Possibility: How Dr. Cohen Helped Bobbie Regain Her Life

Bobbie Berry, a 45-year-old from Columbus, Ohio, has had a long and challenging journey with her shoulder, a journey that has impacted her ability to enjoy her life and her time with family. As a grandmother of eight, Bobbie loves spending time with her grandchildren, hiking along creeks, fishing, and arrowhead hunting with her husband. But for years, she was unable to do these things without constant pain and the fear that her shoulder might dislocate at any moment.

In 2011, Bobbie’s life took a traumatic turn. After a personal and abusive relationship left her with a hurt shoulder – she sought out to get an MRI that revealed a torn rotator cuff; soon after she underwent surgery. However, the recovery was short-lived as the injury worsened. Over the years, Bobbie had multiple surgeries, but her shoulder continued to deteriorate, leaving her unable to pick up her grandchildren or fully participate in the activities she loved.

By 2023, after another failed surgery and growing frustration, Bobbie sought help from Dr. Brian Cohen, a specialist referred to her by her family doctor. From the moment she met Dr. Cohen, Bobbie knew she was in good hands. He looked at her shoulder, listened to her concerns, and gave her hope, reassuring her that he would do everything he could to get her back to where she could pick up her granddaughter and live her life without constant pain. Bobbie appreciated that Dr. Cohen was not only attentive to her but also explained everything in detail to her current husband.

Dr. Cohen’s approach was a breath of fresh air for Bobbie. Unlike previous doctors, he went beyond just the surgery. After the procedure, an occupational therapist came to her home to ensure she was recovering properly and could regain the functionality she needed to get back to her daily activities. Bobbie noticed a significant difference in the care she received under Dr. Cohen’s guidance compared to previous treatments. She felt well-supported and more confident in her recovery.

On the day of her procedure, Bobbie was understandably nervous, having been disappointed by failed surgeries in the past. However, the support she received from Dr. Cohen and his team put her at ease. “They got me calm,” she said. “I felt comfortable with him and felt like I was in good hands finally.”

Today, Bobbie’s shoulder is stable, something she had not experienced in years. Though she still struggles with strength and some daily tasks, the pain and dislocations are no longer a constant concern. She’s looking forward to working with Dr. Cohen to rebuild her strength and continue improving her quality of life.

For anyone struggling with orthopedic issues, Bobbie strongly recommends Dr. Cohen. She said, “For anyone with ortho problems, he’s the one I’d send them to.” Thanks to his care, Bobbie now has the hope of returning to the activities she loves, including spending more time outdoors with her family and enjoying the company of her grandchildren.
