Patient Story: Christina’s Journey Back to Movement
When Christina first met Dr. Brian Cohen, she was at a breaking point. A fall down a set of steps had left her in unbearable pain; pain that stole her mobility, her confidence, and her active lifestyle. For months, she tried to push through, managing what she could around her family’s small farm. But even simple tasks, like cleaning eggs or helping her daughter around the house, became nearly impossible.
“I thought it was just my arthritis acting up,” she shared. “But after I fell, the pain was different, it shot through my leg, my thigh, my back. I couldn’t get comfortable to sit or sleep.”

Her primary care physician referred her to Dr. Lui, who then connected her with Dr. Cohen, someone he described as the best for her case. Christina did her research, reading reviews and exploring every option nearby. “Everywhere I looked, Dr. Cohen’s name kept coming up with the highest ratings. People said he wasn’t overly talkative, but I didn’t care. I wanted someone who would do the job right.”
From her first appointment in Chillicothe to surgery in Pickerington, Christina says the experience exceeded her expectations. “I was terrified, it was the biggest surgery I’d ever had. But Dr. Cohen and his team were incredible. Every nurse, every staff member was kind, patient, and reassuring. They never made me feel silly for being anxious.”
Her recovery began the same day as her surgery. “They had me up and walking, and even through the post-surgery pain, I could tell immediately, I was walking better than before. It was amazing.”
Within a month, Christina was moving without pain and back to physical therapy. Dr. Cohen was honest and direct about her recovery, including how her weight might affect healing, but always with empathy and respect. “He didn’t sugarcoat things, and I appreciated that. He explained everything clearly and always made sure I understood what to expect.”
A year later, Christina is back to doing what she loves most, which is spending time outdoors with her 10-year-old daughter, fishing, walking, and helping on the family farm. “It’s like getting a piece of my life back,” she said. “Dr. Cohen gave me that.”
When asked if she’d recommend Dr. Cohen to others, she didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely. I’ve already told my family. I’m picky about doctors and I always research them first, but Dr. Cohen is one of those people you just trust. The care, the honesty, the compassion, it’s all there.”
For Christina, the difference was more than physical, it was personal. “I went from not being able to walk to living again. It’s a total 180.”
