Jason Matson’s Journey Back to the Moments That Matter Most

For Jason Matson, life had slowly become defined by pain.
A 53-year-old from Washington Court House, Ohio, Jason enjoyed spending time outdoors, fishing, visiting parks, and most importantly, making memories with his 11-year-old son. But over time, severe hip pain began taking away the activities he loved and impacting his everyday life.
“The pain was indescribable,” Jason shared. “It was way off the charts. My way of life was declining. I was living in so much pain, and I was crying every day. I was giving up hope.”
After living with worsening pain for some time, Jason knew it was time to seek help. He reached out to Dr. Brian Cohen, a physician he already trusted after previously undergoing a successful total knee replacement with him in 2017.
“I remembered the job he did on my knee, and I had great results,” Jason said. “I knew he was the right person.”
Although Jason had been hesitant to undergo another surgery, his pain eventually outweighed his concerns. Having already experienced several health challenges and procedures, he admitted that fear and frustration caused him to wait longer than he should have.
“I was just stubborn,” Jason said. “I was tired of having surgeries, and I was scared of going through it again.”
Looking back, he wishes he had made the decision sooner.
“I’m really kicking myself for waiting so long,” Jason shared. “The healing process and how great everything went, I wish I would have done this a few years ago.”
After meeting with Dr. Cohen and discussing his options, Jason moved forward with hip replacement surgery. From his first appointment through recovery, he felt supported, informed, and confident in his care.
“Dr. Cohen is a phenomenal doctor,” Jason said. “His staff is top notch. The care I received was incredible. I really couldn’t compare it.”
Following surgery, Jason began the process of getting back to the activities that had once seemed out of reach. Today, he is enjoying a level of mobility and independence he had been missing, including something especially meaningful: being active with his son.
Now, Jason can throw a baseball, toss a football, spend time outdoors, and participate in the everyday moments he feared he was losing.
“I’m able to play baseball with my son and throw football and do things with him that I normally wasn’t able to do before the hip surgery,” Jason said.
For Jason, the impact goes beyond pain relief. It’s about getting back to being present for the people and activities he loves most.
His advice to others experiencing joint pain is simple: don’t wait until the pain takes over your life.
“If I could tell someone else one thing, it would be to go see Dr. Cohen,” Jason said. “Don’t wait. I wish I wouldn’t have waited as long as I did.”
Jason’s story is a reminder that orthopedic care isn’t just about treating a joint, it’s about restoring confidence, independence, and the ability to enjoy life’s most important moments.
For Jason, hip replacement wasn’t just a procedure. It was a way back to the life he wanted to live.
Because getting back to what you love is what matters most.
